My Kind Of Man must be Tall, Dark and Handsome - Asa Reveals

She’s missing-in-action at home. But the beloved musician is working her way to relevant circles in Europe; and eyeing a US penetration.
And in this Factory 78 interview, she opens up more, on where she’s coming from, and where she’s headed. Oh, she answers some trivia too!

Asa, how are you?
I’m fine
I know you just performed here in the UK, how was it?
It was good. The people were really nice and I think they enjoyed the show, I did as well.
During your performance, Twitter went crazy; I heard you did some ‘bata’ dance as well, did you?
(Laughs) Yes
Now this is like a promotional tour for you. Your second album’Beautiful Imperfection’ is out now. Let’s talk about a little bit of your history in the music industry; this is your second album and to get such reception by the fans internationally as well as in Africa, It must feel like an accomplishment at this stage, doesn’t it?
It feels good when people react, especially positively to the work. It shows that the months of writing and going through production, composition and all of that is paying off. It also feels good when the album can reach many people and cut across.
You were born in France and you grew up in Nigeria, a mixture of cultures, how did that inspire your brand of music?
I was raised in Lagos and what I know in music today is from the church, the street, the music I heard from the street, the music from my father’s record. Coming out to France after a very long time, seeing other cultures and the people bringing things from their country and sharing especially music. I enjoyed the freedom so much in France. With that and what I learnt in Lagos, I was able to carve a niche, an identity for myself. It helped me with my compositions and performances. It’s been great.
Talking about your history in music, a little birdie told me that you were such a musical person, you used to sing back your answers to your mum when she asked you questions. Now tell me how it was growing up as a musical person and the kind of reaction you got from family members and friends in Nigeria at a time when education was number one priority. What did it feel like?
When I sang people liked it, they thought it was a good hobby; it wasn’t easy for me because people didn’t quite understand the tone of my voice and also the range because I was always singing low but that was my voice. Back then, if you had a high voice, you could sing like a bird, you could sing like Celine Dion and that’s great. So I had to fight with that, I had to fight with people thinking I wasn’t a good singer and took me off the choir in school and church. But now I think my family thinks differently; they are proud, I also see other people’s parents encourage their children to go into music and also do what they want to do. So, also on the long run it has paid off.
How will you brand the type of music you make?
It’s hard because I am a product of many people. From Marvin Gaye to Fela Kuti to Bob Marley to Aretha Franklyn to Miriam Makeba, Angelina Kidjo, I’m a mix of them. I take one or two things from them to make Asa. So it’s really hard, I like to give you… (laughs). I do folk music with a fusion of reggae, hip-hop, a bit of soul, of jazz, all these musical stars I learnt growing up.
The name of your second and current album is Beautiful imperfection, why did you choose that title?
Beautiful Imperfection is my life, it’s me looking inwards and saying ‘I’m beautiful but imperfect’.  I like to do music, that’s beautiful, you might like it or not. It’s like life; it’s beautiful sometimes and atimes you might see it as bitter. People have different experiences, so beautiful imperfection is what I am and accepting that it’s a journey and I’m human.
Now let’s talk about the song ‘Be my Man’; where did the inspiration for that song come from?
Well, it came from hanging out with my girlfriends. We were all chatting and talking about boys (laughs). We were talking about what we would like to do, what kind of families we would like to have, what kind of men we would like to have. So the song ‘Be my man’ is a playful conversation, inspired by these conversations I’ve had in the past.  It’s me expressing what I would like my man to be, what I would want us to do – have fun, do all the cheesy things and live life without being scared and shy.
Now, in very little time, the French community has embraced you, your music and culture. Were you surprised at how quick it took to sway your people in that way?
I was surprised, well but God has a way of directing you. So I never thought I would go and sing in France, I thought I was going to be a tourist, go visit my birthplace and enjoy Paris. My Grand dad would say ‘See Paris and die’ (laughs). I guess he meant that because he was in love, if you are in love, you go to Paris. So the reaction of the people has been really amazing. I enjoy that fact that there’s France which forms part of my story and then there’s Nigeria. I have these two worlds and the reactions have been really great and very encouraging as well. What else can I ask for? I’m full of appreciation.
Your relationship with Cobhams Asuquo has been well documented over the last couple of years. You guys have worked together basically since you started your first album. How did that relationship come about and what is the state of that relationship now?
Well, with Cobhams, I met him about eight years ago and we’ve been really good friends. We are still good friends, he worked on the second album as well but on a few songs this time around because I wanted to branch out, I’m searching; looking at other things and I’m hearing the sounds. So, it’s still good with Cobhams, we remain friends, we are still working together and it’s great. You know, Cobhams is amazing.
What role do you think artistes should play in the community when it comes to issues that are affecting the people?
Just like a politician or preacher, we all have roles to play because people look up to us, people want to learn, want direction, need direction. And if you are a singer or an actor or a dancer you have the responsibility because you are always in contact with people, you are a public figure and just like the ministry you have to lead people towards the right place. So it is important to use this opportunity we have, the opportunity of the microphone, the loudspeaker, the travelling and meeting with great people to help, to send messages, to inspire the youth, to put them on the right path
How would you advice young female artistes especially in Nigeria now trying to come out and take a hold of their business? Just to be aware of things around them.
Well, it’s hard for females but you have to believe in yourself, you have to know yourself. If you don’t know yourself, you might fall into the hands of the wrong people. I did know myself, I’ve always known myself but you know, we are humans and you cannot ‘not’ make mistakes. Sometime mistakes are good, it helps make you stronger and make some decisions in life. I feel also, patience is very important. Now it might seem nothing is going to happen, everybody is making all the money, making all the noise but patience is good. It’s also good to experience, I can’t tell you not to go out and experience but it’s also very important to know yourself; know when to stay calm, watch, learn and make the right move.
I got 2 more questions for you with a yes or no answer to let people know more about Asa and I’ll put you on the spot;  One – Paris or Lagos
It’s difficult.
Short, cut and sexy or tall, dark and handsome?
Excuse me (laughs)…of course tall.

Soulja Boy
Soulja Boy doesn't know the meaning of the word recession -- because TMZ has learned, the 21-year-old rapper is dropping $55 MILLION on a new private jet.

A member of Soulja's management team tells us ... the kid bought himself a G5 jet as a birthday present to himself this week.

The jet cost $35 mil ... but that's just the beginning. We're told the birthday boy is dropping an additional $20 million to pimp out his ride with all sorts of cool stuff ... like 12 custom Italian leather seats, flat screen TVs, 4 liquor bars, a special travertine tiled floor, and Brazilian hardwood cabinets.

We're told S.B. is also gutting the in-flight lavatory -- and replacing it with a giant, LUXURIOUS bathroom. Oh, he's also giving the jet a custom paint job ... to include his logo.

And if that's not enough for someone's 21st -- we're told Soulja's also spending $300,000 to throw himself a blowout birthday party at a Miami nightclub tonight ... and Dwight Howard, Bow Wow, and Sean Kingston are all expected to attend.

Prostitutes flee Obalende area of Lagos because of Boko Harram

The mention of Obalende would remind people of a noisy seedy part of Lagos Island on the route to the former Federal Secretariat and seat of past military administrations in Dodan Barracks. But the Obalende in Kaduna city is a shade more notorious as a place that reeks of flesh, night time crawlers and rancorous behaviours.

In the alternative, the place is known as Crocodile city. Obalende is situated in the heart of Kaduna metropolis, even though it is officially called Maiduguri, Forcados roads, by Constitution way, and not far from the Ahmadu Bello National Stadium. It is the largest gathering place for commercial sex workers who operate on 24 hour basis either on street corners or in the numerous low end hotels with noisy music blaring endlessly onto the streets. For years, Obalende has remained a major sexpot in Kaduna with more than 11 brothels and over 20 other nondescript hotels concentrated in a densely populated neighbourhood.

This makes it easy for clients to escape from watchful eyes of spouses and friends to live momentarily in a world with women of easy virtues, given that the area never sleeps. Interestingly, many commercial sex workers come from outside this “Sin City” and are known to operate on short time basis before heading for respective homes at dawn. Usually, their mode of dressing is not only weird and banal, they are meant to expose maximum flesh that leaves nothing to the imagination.

More fascinating is the fact that their style of business is very aggressive as more creative ones employ every lewd language and tactics to snare their quarry. A sampler: “Oga see my breast, it is still standing and you can enjoy me. My customer, please do not forget me today. I promise to satisfy you to the fullest for a small amount.”

Though charges vary, the amount one pays is dependent on the perception of the sex worker on whether a prospective client is affluent or not. It also comes with demands of a client and duration of service to be rendered. On average, prices range from N1, 500.00 to N2000.00 for short time which is normally an hour, but still negotiable.

Sadly, all these activities are slowly grinding to a halt as the once booming Obalende has become a ghost town following a recent deadly attack by the Boko Haram sect who had earlier warned people to stay away from beer drinking parlours and night clubs for safety of their lives, failing which they would have themselves to blame.

Visit by Community Mirror to the area, reveals presence of heavily built men known as bouncers using metal detectors to screen clients and customers coming or going out of the few hotels and brothels that dare to remain open. As if to make good their threat, members of the sect planted an explosive device at the “Ngozi Hotel”, one of the many in the area. According to an account, the bomb was hidden in a refuse bin near the hotel, and it went off before it was detected causing mayhem and stampede.

Community Mirror gathered that the explosion killed one of the sex workers and injured seven others. A sex worker who also was a victim, told Community Mirror that she went to buy some packets of condom in a pharmacy when she heard a loud boom close to the hotel fence and a shrapnel hit her leg.

“I went to buy condoms for my business, when I heard a loud sound. On entering my room, I saw blood on my leg and my chest. I was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but I am still feeling big pain on my leg,”she said. Investigations revealed that the explosion has caused serious confusion in streets like Oshogbo and Bonny in the neighbourhood as residents now sleep with one eye open for fear of further attacks, considering the large number of beer parlours and brothels in the area even as many sex workers are now deserting Obalende for more subdued and less popular areas and hotels.

Pastor E.A. Adeboye condemns Ladies indecent dress mode

Click for Full Image Size

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has once again condemned in its totality indecent dressing among women in the church believed to be the largest Pentecostal congregation.

Right now, he has sent out strict warning to all parish pastors against condoning such provocative and devilish act.
The humble preacher of the word, we learnt, expressed outright dismay at the rate at which young ladies and even the married ones are disrespecting church’s rule concerning the mode of dressing, hence the need to correct the anormally.

We gathered that couple of weeks back, Daddy G.O as fondly called issued a categorical statement, banning all obscene and half naked women from moving near the pulpit. The respected man of God has also directed all parish pastors to follow the rules or face stiff disciplinary measures.

The message has been sent across the branches of the church nationwide. Not only that, it is also mandatory for all the pastors in charge to start enforcing the rule to the letter.

When the police moved into campus tofish out the suspected criminals, some of the gang members engaged thepolice in gun battle. Tragically, an innocent 200 level of History and Diplomatic Studies, Olawale Lasisi, was hit in the crossfire and died of his wounds.
The death of the student further infuriated his colleagues, who trooped to the streets to protest thekilling. This resulted in violence as commercialactivities were paralysed, as the students barricaded the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway for hours, causing traffic congestion.

Cultists rape 2 students and post their nude pics on Facebook

Two ladies suspected to be students of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State were allegedly raped by some members of a secret cult and their nude pictures posted on the social-network site, Facebook.
The development led to a violent attack among warring cult groups in the town leaving at least two students of the university dead, and paralyzing commercial activities in Ijebu-Ode and its environs.
The female students, who were alleged to be members of the cult group, Red Rose, were said to have been abducted and taken into a nearby bush where they were raped.
A witness told Daily Trust that trouble started when parents of the raped students saw the pictures on Face book, and reported the matter to the police which prompted them to invade the school to arrest the alleged perpetrators.
“When the police arrived the school, the cultists were sitting close to the old gate of the university. They resisted arrest and ran away, and after a lot of effort by the police, four of them were arrested while one was shot dead,” the witness said.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Gbenga Omilola said a 200 level student, Mr. Wole Lasisi was shot dead by police, and that the hoodlums who raped the students were not students of the university.
He said the disturbance occurred outside the school’s premises and that it did not affect academic activities. He added that the institution’s management has setup a fact-finding committee to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the incident.

Why I stopped smoking Marijuana - 2face Idibia

Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known as 2face is arguably one of the best musicians to come out of Africa.
In a recent interview, he opens up like never before.
Excerpts from the interview;
When it comes to drugs, I can say I drink Panadol sometimes when I have headache. Or I can take Vitamin C.

Yes, I have tried it before. I tried it and I felt ire.
I don’t want to even start encouraging anybody or talking about that. But I am just being truthful. I have done it before.

Cocaine, heroin? I have never taken tried those ones. Never, ever, ever.
I have never taken marijuana to go onstage. It was just for relaxation purpose. But like I said, I don’t even want to go there.
So, let’s leave that. I just knew marijuana wasn’t for me. So I stopped. Because it makes me feel I am in another world.
I stopped using it a couple of years ago. I wouldn’t say it was difficult stopping it. It wasn’t too difficult.
It was just craziness that introduced me to marijuana. You know how youthful energy used to push one into things like that. In those days; I listened to songs like Rolling down the Street Smoking.
All those songs can influence, if you want to be influenced. It is not for me to advise musicians not to write or sing about drugs.
One thing about art is that you cannot hide reality from it. You cannot hide the truth from it. It is just like movies as well. You are depicting reality the way you see it from your perspective.
So if you say they should not show guns in movies, they should not show the bad guys, you are distorting reality. You must present things the way they are. It’s the same thing with music.
Sometimes you want to paint a picture of reality. You can’t run away from that. So you say some of these things. It’s basically left for kids to hear it, for them to feel it and then resist it and they get stronger.
Because, sometimes the kid you are hiding something from, the day he would discover that thing, it would be worse than the one who has seeing it since.
The thing is just to bring up your kids the right way. Not letting them fear, but let them see the truth, the reality and make their choices by themselves.

Plateau Govt. banned females from wearing trousers to offices

Government Bans Females From Wearing Trouser To Work
The Plateau State Government has said the barring of females from wearing trousers at the state secretariat and other government offices was part of the campaign against indecent dressing.
Head of Service in the state, Mr. Moses Gwom who gave the clarification in an interview with newsmen said it was also in line with the 10-point agenda of Governor Jonah Jang’s administration of which ethical re-orientation was one.
He said indecent dressing by females should not be condoned in offices where government business were conducted hence those considered not to be properly dressed were turned back from the secretariat.
The policy which started over a year ago has seen many women sent back from the gate of the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat and other government offices for wearing trousers or other dresses considered indecent.
A woman who was once turned back from the secretariat described the experience as “embarrassing” arguing that she did not consider wearing of trousers as indecent.
She told Vanguard that rather than a blanket ban on the wearing of trousers by women, what was considered indecent should be well defined so as not to embarrass people unnecessarily.
She said: ”On the day in question, I was wearing a trouser suit which is an acceptable mode of formal dressing anywhere in the world, but I was turned back and could not transact the business for which I went there”.

I have operated in Osun and Oyo States.” She explained further that they were coming to Ibadan from Ifon, Osun to sell the stuffs they stole and that when they got to Ogbomosho, a vehicle which had brake failure caused a traffic snarl which the police were trying to control. “As we were about to break away from the traffic jam, the police, stopped us and began questioning us. Christian group calls for Bakare’s suspenson from CAN because of Islamic banking:

CAN President Ayo Oritsejafor

National President of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria (FCCN), Pastor Emmanuel Dziggau, has said that Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly and vice-presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the April 2011 elections will be suspended from the body if found guilty of criticising Christian leaders for opposing the establishment of Islamic banking in Nigeria. FCCN is one of the five bodies that constitute the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
He also insisted that no persuasion would compel Christians to accept the non-interest banking in the name of a particular religion against the constitution of Nigeria. The president, who said he had over 25million membership across the country, said Christians would not accept the establishment of Islamic banking, “which is against the nation’s supreme document, the constitution.” Dziggau was reacting to Pastor Bakare’s endorsement of Islamic banking in Nigeria. He said: “Did Pastor Bakare belong to the five blocks that make up CAN and all the churches in Nigeria have five arms that form the Christian body? I don’t think Bakare belongs to one of them, by implication he has sanctioned himself. “But if we discover that he belongs to one of the blocks that make up CAN, we will sanction him. CAN members have agreed that there will be no Islamic banking in Nigeria because the constitution is very clear that banks should not be established on religious line be it a Christian or an Islamic bank.
According to the FCCN president, “the unity and oneness of Nigeria should not be played with, irrespective of the present predicament the nation is facing.” Dziggau added that the Federal Government must act fast on the issue before it degenerates. He added:“Our position is very clear on the issue of Islamic banking. If Sanusi continues to talk about this issue and with the present situation in Nigeria, things will be worse and the country will be difficult to rule. Even there are no banks owned by states. “We are Nigerians and this country belongs to all of us and nobody will force on us something we don’t want. If you want to force on people what they don’t want, there will be no peace in this country and that will be dangerous for all of us; Christians will never accept it.”
In another development, the House of Representatives came under fire yesterday from the Niger Delta Nationalities Forum (NDNF), claiming that members of the lower legislative chambers of the National Assembly from the non-Moslem areas did not take the feelings of their constituents into consideration when they endorsed Islamic banking last week. According to the group, the legislators have failed in representing their interest on what they described as ‘’the vexed issue of Islamic banking’’. The NDNF said: ‘’Islamic banking will continue to cause disaffection among religious groups in Nigeria. But if there must be Islamic banking, let there also exist a Christian banking system due to the sensitivity of religion in the country.

Me date Dejo Tunfulu? Over my dead body!: Lizzy Anjorin!

What is the bond between Yoruba actress, Lizzy Anjorin and the comedian popularly known as Dejo Tunfulu? That was the question on the lips of those who claimed to have seen the actor cruising around town with the actress’ Murano SUV.
While some are of the opinion that their relationship could just be on a platonic level, others strongly believe there is something more intimate between them.
On Friday 8th July at about 10 p.m., a source claimed to have seen the couple drive in the same automobile to Dejo’s rented apartment at Pipeline bus stop, Ishasi, a suburb of Ogun State. Dejo was said to have driven the automobile while Lizzy sat beside him. The development has, however, raised further suspicion and insinuations that the two thespians are dating.
Nollywood Reel gathered that for more than a week now, Dejo, who mostly plays the role of a clown in movies, has been cruising around town in a Murano automobile suspected to be Lizzy’s.
Efforts to reach Dejo as at the time of filing this report proved abortive, but in a swift reaction, Lizzy in a telephone conversation, told Nollywood Reel that it is a rumour in its entirety.
She said she has never dated anybody in the industry and would never do so.
“Me, date Dejo? Over my dead body! You won’t even believe that I have not seen him face-to-face more than two times. Most times, when we work in the same location, it’s either I leave before he arrives or vice versa. But the truth of the matter is that I’m a free minded person; l play with everybody, but whoever is saying that I’m dating him is definitely not serious,” Lizzy gushed.
Meanwhile, the actress has stepped up her game as she has registered herself as one of the most successful actresses in the industry, by recently opening a multi-million naira wine shop somewhere in Abule-Egba, Lagos.
Lizzy made her debutin the movie scene with her performance in Iyawo Ojo Kan, directed by the late Durojaye Ishola popularly known as Alasari and ever sincethen, the sky seems to be her starting point.

Porn star Kacey Jordan aborts 4th baby!

Porn star Kacey Jordan reportedly texted troubled actor Charlie Sheen that she was pregnant with a baby who might have been his, but not to worry, shewas getting an abortion:
Charlie I’m so sorry how things turned out, I want u to know something before it hits the press…I’m pregnant and I don’t believe its yours, but I’m going to Oregon to take care of the situation.
I don’t remember who forwarded me that text, making the point to me that there was absolutelyno reason for Jordan to send Sheen such a message other than to secretly hope he would urge her not to follow through, which he apparently did not.
This was also reportedly 22-yr-old Jordan’s 4th abortion, which is tragic and crazy. Furthermore, she understands she is killing her own children. After her most recent abortion she told the paparazzi, “I don’t have a baby anymore.”
In that video she also said, “No, I’m not on birth control now. I’ve never been on birth control” – apparently speaking about hormonal contraception. Jordan apparently – and haphazardly – relies solely on condoms to engage in prolific sex, knowing she’s quite fertile. According to
Now, Jordan has admitted the couple did not use contraception, leading her to question whether Charlie was the father when she discovered she was pregnant.
“I had the abortion on [February 17], I went home to Oregon to have it because that is where I grew up. I was sick and on the couch all day,” revealed Jordan, who has already terminated three previous pregnancies.
“I think it might have been too soon to be Charlie’s baby, but you never know. I get pregnant very easily.
“Charlie and I tried to use protection… I kept having to put it on again. I don’t want people to think I just had sex with him and didn’t try to use one.
But if the baby wasn’t Sheen’s Jordan says it could also have been another A-list star’s.
“A week earlier I had been with another celebrity, so it could of been his, but I can’t talk about him because I had to signa release.”
I can’t tell if the girl is purposefully trying tokill herself or just stupid. On February 1 2011, she told Howard Stern she was urinating blood due toa kidney infection. That was only 17 days before her abortion.

Many candidates will miss 2011 University Admissions - JAMB

THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that many ofthe candidates seeking admission to universities this year would not be admitted.
A release made available to the Nigerian Tribune and signed by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Timothy Oyedeji, said because of the carrying capacity of universities, coupled with the rush for university education by candidates, who mostly did not like to have higher education in other institutions like polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, “vast majority of candidates who applied to be admitted to universities will not be admitted.”
The release further said the reason for this low admission rate would “not be because they have not scored high grades, nor for their failure in the post-United Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), but wholly because of quota constraints.”
It said out of the 368 tertiary institutions in Nigeria, five, with the University of Lagos in the lead, were chosen by 406,389 candidates as their most preferred institutions, out of the total 1,493,604 that sat for the 2011 UTME.
Other most preferred universities were listed as Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Benin and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Toni Payne moves back into 9ice house!

In a rather dramatic twist, cosmetologist and emerging artiste manager, Toni Payne, might have moved back into the expansive Abule-Egba,Lagos, home of estranged husband - afro hip hop singer, 9ice. Her unexpected return to the house she left in unwieldy circumstances late 2009 came as a shock to neighbours, aides, close friends and relatives of the singer who thought she had moved on for good.
According to several impeccable sources, Payne’s startling about-face happened last Thursday when she came to the house demanding to see the father of her child but was prevented from entering.
“She called 9ice several times but he didn’t pick the call because he had been told she was at the gate. He came with a male friend even. What angered 9ice was that she didn’t pre-inform him of her visit, source says.
She left without blowing a fuse, only toreturn the following day. This time, Payne brought along with herthe only product of the short-lived marriage, Zion, and she was allowed in without much ado. Payne was in the house until Wednesday morning. The source further says, “Throughout the time she spent in the house, she was always cooking, tryingto worm her way back into 9ice’s heart but he didn’t eat the food because he’s trying to be careful.”
To underscore her return, she even invited the Soundcity crew over to the house to interview herartiste, Adol, which, multiple sources say, didn’t go down well with some of 9ice’s crew members. In all of these, 9ice has reportedly kept mum and remained indifferent to Payne’s schemes.
During her brief stay, it was learnt that 9ice’s parents also made surprise visits to him, lending credence to the insinuations that Payne might have begun the reconciliation process from the roots. Close watchers of the unfolding scenario are not totally surprised at her sudden transformation, far from her hitherto bellicose stance on anything 9ice, especially since she learnt that an Abuja-based lady now has a child by him.
In the last one week, discerning followers and Payne’s fans, especially on social networking and micro-blogging site, twitter, would have deduced that she is whirling in a new kind of euphoriaand that she still has a thing for the celebrated singer, even to the point of helping to hype his forthcoming double album.
“The most anticipatedalbum of 2011. In fact, over anticipated sef = Bashorun Gaa,” she tweets. That was last Thursday, the day she made the first visit to 9ice’s house. Another of her tweet reads, “More than love is true friendship. This alone can withstand all the ups and downs and still keep us standing. Three years….God is great.” She adds, “Two steps backwards, 20 steps forward.”
Some curious followers pointedly told her to leave 9ice alone, thinking she was up to some mischief. She had to reply one of them that she is just an avid fan of his music. Since then, every of her tweet has been punctuated with lyricsand anecdotes from the singer’s songs. Then, when 9ice madea guest appearance ona radio programme on Wednesday morning, Payne was the first to let the world know;“Oya o, (it’s) good music time. Tune in toRhythm 93.7 FM, 9ice in the building.” She posted several tweets, indicating that she was keenly following the programme. When E-Punch spoke with her shortly after the programme, she refused to comment, saying, “I’d rather keep my private life private.”
When contacted, 9ice’s manager, Dehinde Fajana, says he is not aware of theentire affair and, therefore, could not comment. He chips in however, “9ice is an intelligent young man who knows what he wants out of life. For now, all our attention is concentrated on releasing his jazz album which would serve as a precursor for the double album. That is all I have to say.”
9ice was a burgeoning musician when he metthe then US-based Toni Payne at an event in Lagos. They got married in July 2008 and had a baby shortly after. They agreed to separate in January 2010, confirming speculations that the marriage was not builton solid foundations. The third anniversary of their wedding would have been Monday, July 18.

How Sex sells as low as N100 ($0.8) in the city of Ibadan

Located conspicuously at the heart of Ibadan, capital city of Oyo State, Bodija market is a sight to behold – crowded and noisy. It is the delight of every wife, cooks and others who need to shop to save some money. Here, foodstuffs come cheapest in the city, and in Nigeria as some argue. Hence foodstuffs buyers happily troop there to bring back bulk food items ranging from rice garri, elubo, fish, meat, tuwo, lafun, vegetable and many others.
In Bodija, while the food buyers have theirgood bargain, there are other attractions at the market. Services also abide in the domain of immorality.
Bodija market wakes up as early as the cockcrows, and never goesto sleep. This is not because trading lasts that long but a different transaction, heinous in nature, replaces buying and selling.
Prostitution, pornographic film shows and petty robbery take over in Bodija when buyers and sellers of food items quit.
Saturday Sun spent days observing what happens between 6pm and midnight and the discovery is simplyincredible.
From the Total Filling Station at the other side of the road into the market, following the railway line that runs down into the market, sex workers in different shapes, sizes and colours would call on male passers-by, asking and even begging for patronage. “Come it is sweet, come fine man, I will do you well,na just N100. E no cost, come , make we do am sharp sharp!”. Some of them would chorus, swinging their hips to entice buyers.
Their ramshackle shelters stand facing the rail line. Some are built within the market. In most of the shelters, humble Hausa families also live as neigbhours to the sex workers. Amidthe sex workers’ shelters is a mosque made of wood. As thesex worker or her patron ply the trade, they are harangued bythe blaring of the public address systemannouncing prayers from this holy place.
Another walk through the area offers you greater embarrassment. Theyhoot, call and even drag you: “Come now, na me call you first, you no no me again? Come, I go do you well, come and enjoy yourself.” If you are casually dressed, they call you student, otherwise, they call you oga or fine man.”
To know more on howthe sex workers carry out their business, Saturday Sun spoke toa few of them under the pretence of patronage.
Cynthia, who hails from Delta State said for short time meaning a round of sex with her, she would accept as low as N100. “But if you want enjoy yourself well, well, touch br***t, smoosh body, you go make am N500.” We haggled andshe brought it down to N300. Spending a night with Cynthia will take nothing less thanN800. “That mean say, you go enjoy till day break”, she said patronizingly, blinking her amorous eyes.
The other sex worker refused to give her name. She just revealed that she is from the North. She wanted business not friendship. “Na work I dey do, I no get time for friends now. I beg follow me talk business”, she snapped. The anonymous sex worker also accepted N100 for a quick one but advised that it would not be as interesting and enjoyable as a longer session that costs N500. “Na that one you go enjoy pass, I no say you fit pay am”said the unidentified sex worker. She got a bottle of beer as parting gift with a promise to see her later.
Porn mart
Take a long walk down to the side of the market near the butchers’ place. Here stands a wooden long hall. The interior smellsheavily of alcohol, cigarette and marijuana. But for some bitter kola one chewed, the mixture of the strong stench would cause one to throw up. In front of this wooden hall are small pornographic posters mounted on flat wooden boards. The fee to watch a pornographic film that could last an hour is N30. Most of the people who patronize the cinema hall are traders, touts, and motorists in Bodija market and the neigbhourhood. Pornographic films are shown from 8pm till mid-night.
Most of the porn watchers, from Saturday Sun checks, first go there to get excited and whet their appetite for a session with the sex worker near-by.
“One hour for the cinema go wake you up so you go quick go do am with Ashawo,” Ibrahim, a mallam and regular patron of the cinema confessed.
A man who said he is an Ibadan indigene explained that: “Most of us come here to unwind. Some of us who have two wives do come here to discharge when our wives are fighting and the home becomes too hot. Or if your girl friend refused to give you the thing and e de worry you, na here you release yourself.”
Don’t the police attack them sometimes? Musa, another regular, speaking in pidgin English said “ The police dey come but the film man (cinema attendant) know them well, and him know how to settle them.”

How a Prostitute kill a man because of oral sex

A Lagos prostitute has landed herself in deep trouble. She is currently in police custody after allegedly stabbing a man to death after arguments over – wait for it – oral sex.

The young lady isn’t denying that she committed the crime; she’s saying, however, that she killed the man in self defence.

The 21-year-old lady, Kofoworola, said when she boarded a Honda car at Borno Crescent, Apapa, Lagos, at about 3.30 am that fateful night, she was very grateful to the driver. The driver, she said, reportedly assured her he would not collect any money since he wasn’t driving a commercial vehicle.

Kofoworola, (other names are being withheld by us) said she never knew that danger was lurking around the corner until the driver, identified as Patrick, refused to stop at her destination - Monalido Night Club, Apapa. Kofoworola said when she protested, the driver brought out a knife and threatened to kill her if she failed to do his bidding. Ironically, it was Kofoworola that ended up killing the man with that same knife. How did it happen?
“He threatened to kill me with the knife if I refused to perform oral sex on him,” she said. “He said I should use my mouth to stimulate his manhood. I told him I could not do it. I had never done such a thing before. I begged him and even told him that such act irritates me and would make me vomit. All my pleading fell on deaf ears. I later told him to allow me ease myself. I told him I was not going to run because my bag was on the back seat. He stopped the vehicle, but as I wanted to come down, he sped off again.

He held my neck with one hand as he drove and was pressing my throat with it while he controlled the steering with the other hand. He then pulled over at a dark spot along Hyndra Road, Apapa. He pulled down his trousers and commanded me to do what he wanted me to do. I still refused. He stabbed me in my foot to show how serious he was. I screamed and begged him to leave me alone.

He pressed my face to his lap and ordered me to do what he wanted me to do. I did not obey him. As he was pressing my neck, the knife fell off from his hands. I quickly grabbed it. When he saw that I had collected the knife, he attempted to collect it from me by force. He bit me in the hand. So I first stabbed him on the thigh and later stabbed him in the chest several times.

“I didn’t mean to kill him. I was only trying to defend myself since he had vowed to kill me. I made a mistake. Maybe instead of killing him I should have allowed him to kill me. That would have been better. I would not have been in this problem now.”

Man sent to Kirikiri prison for touching woman's breast

A man, Micah Monday, has been charged to Apapa magistrate’s court Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria for allegedly fondling a pregnant woman’s breasts.
He has now been remanded in Kirikiri Prison Apapa, Lagos because he could not meet the bail conditions.
The 30-year old Monday was alleged to have fondled Mrs Helen Tamukunu’s breasts in his workshop without her consent.
The incident happened at Igbologun area of Snake Island, Lagos.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the bitter woman engaged the services of Monday to work for her and she paid him in advance. But Monday allegedly did not do the work as he promised.

When Helen went to Monday’s shop to know why he did not do the job as he promised.
Instead of explaining to the woman what happened, he began to tease her. He reportedly told her how he loves her. Monday thought that he had convinced her and he started fondling her breasts.
Shocked by Monday’s action, she attempted to remove his hand from her breasts and her bra got torn in the process.
She went to the police station in the area and reported what happened. Monday was arrested and charged to court for assault.
Part of the charge reads: “That you, the defendant, at the same date, time and place did forcefully romance the complainant.”
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. P. E. Nwaka granted him bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was, however, remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri because he could not meet the bail conditions.

I dont enjoy sex because I was circumcised: Linda Ikeji reveals through her blogpost

Popular blogger and ex-beauty queen Linda Ikeji talks about her sexual life, below are the excerpts:
This question is from, as in Linda Ikeji, the author of this blog...:-)

So here goes. I haven't been with a man in so long, that I hardly remember what it feels like anymore. Mostly for two reasons. One, I was brought up in a kind of way. I have to really really be into someone before I can share my body with them, and I haven't met anyone special in a long while, so I've been riding solo. It makes me very sad sometimes...

Secondly, I've never really enjoyed sex. And I blame it on the fact that I was circumcised. Some things were cut off, so there's not much sensation down there. I mean, I enjoyed intimacy and when the tonque was at work...*cough*... but penetration was a different case. Half the time, I couldn't wait for him to get off me. (I can't believe I'm writing all these on the internet...hmmm...let's continue sha). So usually, I tell myself why seek something you don't particularly enjoy? What's the point really? So I've basically just stayed away.

But lately I have been feeling somehow and I think it's time to get my groove back. I want to feel like a woman again, so I've decided to find me a man before the end of the year. But I don't want to be turned off sex again. As a circumcised woman, how can I make myself enjoy sex? Does circumcision even have anything to do with it? That's always been my belief because other circumcised women I've spoken with say they don't enjoy sex least not as much as women who were not circumcised.

Do you have any advice for me and other women in my situation? Please I don't want any yéyé responses o. This is a serious matter..:-)

DON JAZZY'S LONDON NITE CLUB, shut down over debt!!!!

Click for Full Image Size
This is certainly a trying period for the Big Boss of sophisticated Nigerian hip-hop musical group, Mohits, the one and only Don Jazzy.

Don Jazzy, known as a very hardworking and shrewd businessman, who believes in investing into various business concerns and making his money without much ado, this time, it seems all is not working as planned, as one of the major sources of his multi million naira investments is at the verge of hitting the rocks, except there is a divine intervention aimed at rescuing the situation.
According to sources, a club which is believed to be owned by Don Jazzy and being run by his younger brother has been having difficulties to survive for some months now.
The club named (Da Boss) which is situated at 120 Plaisted House,Woolwich, directly opposite waterfront leisure center in London, is now a complete shadow of its old self and it is at the brink of a total collapse, if something is not done fast.
Sources reveal that, clients of the club who are majorly Nigerians and Ghanaians have deserted the place and pitched their tents with other clubs in the predominantly Nigerian dominated Woolwich neighborhood.
This is not unconnected with the fact that choice drinks are no longer available in the club, the conveniences in the club are in a state of total mess, disrepair and overall maintenance in the club is nothing to write home about.
As it stands now, the club has not paid the normal fees that it ought to pay the Woolwich Council for about a year now.
As if that was not enough, some other occupants of the building are said to have petitioned the local council that the club constitutes a hell of nuisance in the entire environment.
The Woolwich council, we were told, is said to be left with no choice than to close the place up any moment from now and if that happens, the building will be taken over by the council.

The Abuja office of telecommunication giant, Globacom has been sealed up by the Nigerian Communications Commission [NCC].
It was said that the seal off was necessitated by Globacom’s non compliance with telecom guidelines as ordered by the Nigeria Communication Commission.
The NCC officials declared that two letters had been written to Globacom authorities over the company’s non compliance with the directive on the ban of sale of activated GSM sim cards to subscribers and the non-compliance with the guidelines on installations of masts and towers.
Recently, the Nigerian Communications Commission had slammed a N5million fine on the telecommunication giant for failing to comply with the ban on sale of fully activated new SIM cards and guidelines on technical specification for installation of masts and towers.
NCC compliance and monitoring team said it received reports from several locations in the country indicated that most of the SIM cards sold by Globacom were already fully activated, a situation which NCC forbids.
After several correspondences conveying the findings to Globacom and a directive to fully comply by 17 February, NCC alleged that the company failed to comply.
The Commission said that further compliance monitoring indicated that Globacom Ltd was, no doubt, in contravention of the directive on the ban on sales of fully activated SIM cards in Anambra, Borno, Kano, Katsina and Plateau states as Globacom SIM cards purchased in April 2011 in these states were fully activated as calls were made unrestricted from the new SIM cards.
The Commission thereby issued notice of sanction on Globacom, having failed to comply with the said directive in accordance with the provisions of Section 55 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003, and the Nigerian Communications (Enforcements Processes etc) Regulation 2005, and, therefore, liable as follows:
Payment of a penaltyin the sum of N5,000,000 within seven (7) days from the date of the notice and that additional sum of N500,000 shall be paid by Globacom Ltd every additional day as long as the contravention persists.
That upon continuous failure to comply with the directive, the Commission may deny Globacom Ltd other regulatory services or invoke its powers under section 45 (a, b & d) of NCA 2003.

Zeus, Bernadina and Mumba evicted as Vina becomes first housemate to make Big Brother Amplified finals

With only one eviction show left for the Big Brother Amplified grand finale, it appears that Nigeria’s Vina would be the first housemate to make it into the finals as she is the Head of house going into Monday’s nominations. It is safe to assume that if she comes up for eviction, she wouldsave herself. Vina survived eviction for the umpteenth time during Sunday evening’s eviction show that saw Bernadina, Zeus and Mumba leaving the competition. Bernadina’s name was the first to be called out and she left the House after embracing and kissing fellow Housemates. Once on stage, she was shown the identity of those that put her on the chopping block. Luclay was one Housemate she trusted, but since Luclay nominated her, she did not hesitate to mention his name as Housemate she would blow a fuse at. All but one Housemate will receive messages from home. Luclay will miss out on an opportunity of hearingfrom home, courtesy of having stabbed Bernadina in the back.
Zeus became the second Housemate to be Evicted, and was quickly labeled as “the most faithful man in Botswana” by IK on stage. Zeus’ vehement refusal to pursue romance with Karen in the House – saying he has a woman he loves and cares for back home –earned him that honour. Once shown who had nominated him, Zeus blew a fuseat Wendall. The Zimbabwean is to wear a floral swimming cap for the entire week in execution of his fuse.
Mumba was the third and final Housemate to be Evicted on Sunday, 17 July. Kim was in tears and Karen visibly distraught, though she did not say a word. Her face painteda picture of resignation and even Vina was lost for words in trying to console her. Mumba’s fuse was blown at Luclay; he is to walk backwards for the whole of Week 12.
Of the Housemates that remained in the House, Karen should feel the most robbed. Her love interest and friend were both evicted in one week and there was nothingshe could do about it.
This is how Africa Voted: Bernadina: 1 Country Vote – Namibia. Zeus: 2 Country Votes – Botswana and South Africa. Mumba: 3 Country Votes – Zimbabwe, Zambia and Angola. Vina: 4 Country Votes – Nigeria, Ethiopia, Rest of Africa and Ghana. Lomwe: 5 Country Votes – Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique.

How a 51 year old white woman was duped on Facebook by a Nigerian guy

A 51-year-old woman turned over at least $15,000 to a man she considered her boyfriend, though they had only spoken via Facebook and phone.
The woman's sister found out about the transactions and contacted the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Someone using the name “Martin Kahl” met the woman via the social networking site in June. He told the woman he was going to Nigeria to work on a construction project. A few weeks later, he told the woman that the project had fallen through and he began to ask her to send him money, which she did. The biggest single transaction was for $4,000, which the man said was to free him after he was detained by local police, according to reports.
A check of phone numbers used by theman were traced to overseas numbers and the name “Martin Kahl” was tied to similar scams.

Be yourselves, don’t copy me, Wole Soyinka warns

NOBEL laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Thursday, in Abeokuta , took a cursory look at his experience and asked Nigerian children and youths to drop the idea of attempting to emulate him in activism.
Prof. Soyinka  who clocked 77 on Wednesday made the statement Thursday when Ogun  state governor Ibikunle Amosun led no fewer than seventy-seven students, drawn from  the 36 states of  the country and diaspora to the icon’s house in Idi-Aba Abeokuta to celebrate with him.
Addressing  the well-wishers in his  living rooms, Prof. Soyinka warned all  the 77 children on the visit to drop the idea of emulating him saying  “ be yourselves”.
According to  the Nobel laureate “  It is sometimes problematic to be Prof. Wole Soyinka. Be yourselves don’t try to be like me “ he said.
While expressing surprise over the Birthday party organised by Ogun state Government, Soyinka said “  I heard  nothing, everything was organized  behind me. The topic, I have no idea.  I became a visitor in my house. Hospitality I contributed nothing”.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun explained why the birthday bash was organised saying  it was to appreciate the doggedness and activism of the I con. Amosun  however  stated that he  would want “to seize this opportunity to enjoin Nigerians to learn to  appreciate those who have genuinely contributed to the growth and development of our society, while they are still leaving.
“ It goes a long way in encouraging others to do their best to their immediate community and the larger society” Amosun said while describing the event as significant adding that  the  “ significance of these years is not in the number being marked nor the monotony of the yearly rituals, but the celebration of life.

Nollywood actress Rabi Ismail sentenced to death by hanging

Following last Friday’s upholding of the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Kano Division, which sentenced actress Rabi Ismail to death by hanging, Nollywood stars weekend, pleaded with President Goodluck Jonathan to endeavour to overturn the death sentence slammed against the actress
The movie stars described the judgment as “barbaric and outdated.”

Speaking through the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN), Mr. Segun Arinze, the actors expressed shock that in this present dispensation, the court is still awarding death penalty as the last option for anyone who is found guilty of committing a crime of homicide. They therefore pleaded with the federal government to tamper justice with mercy.
“ We have passed this age. I sincerely appeal to the government to tamper justice with mercy. Rather than sentencing her to death by hanging, they can commute it to life imprisonment. If actually she is guilty of the offence she has been accused of, let her live with the stigmafor the rest of her life.” Arinze appealed.
Also reacting to the judgment, aggrieved actress Kate Henshaw-Nuttal described it as “barbaric and unacceptable in this 21st century.”
Expressing shock, she muted ‘ it’s terrible and I don’t subscribe to it. Barbaric even in this 21st century. We shouldn’t be asking government to tamper mercy with justice. Government should tamper justice with mercy. We are not in the medieval age.”
For AMP president, Paul Obazele who was dumbfounded upon hearing the news said death penalty should be unthinkable in Nigeria.
Rabi Ismaila, an actress based in Kano has been standing trial since 2002, after she allegedly administered sedative drugs on her boyfriend, Mr. Ibrahim Auwalu ailas Zazu. She was sentenced to death in 2005.
Ismail had gone to the Supreme Court, to challenge the judgment of the Court of Appeal Kano Division that convicted and sentenced her to death by hanging.
However, against her expectations, the apex court on Friday held that having considered the proof of evidence tendered against the accused person by the Kano state Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, it found her guilty of culpable homicide punishable with death.
Following a detailed investigation that was conducted into the matter by various security agencies in the state, the actress was accused of complicity and was subsequently charged to court by the Kano state DPP.
Consequent upon her arraignment and trial before a Kano state High Court in 2002, the accused person was found guilty of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 (b) of the Penal Code and was accordingly sentenced to death by hanging.
Dissatisfied with the verdict of the trial court, Miss Ismail went before the Kaduna Division of the Court of Appeal, pleading it to overturn the death sentence slammed against her.
